Organizers
The competition is jointly organised by the Arts Education Section and the Gifted Education Section of the Education Bureau.
Aims
- To encourage students and the general public to know more about the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery (YAG) and appreciate the different achievements of the outstanding students ;
- To create opportunities for students and the general public to visit the YAG and express their feelings of the Gallery through different artistic means.
Eligibility of Participants
All full-time students from primary, secondary schools and HKSAR residents are welcome to participate.
Details of Competitions
1. Postcard Design Contest for primary students
Theme : My Impression of the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery
Size of artwork : Postcard format 29.7cm X 42cm (A3 size)
Artwork Requirements :
- After visiting the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery, participants in this competition select one favourite domain of the Gallery as a target to create their artworks.
- The artwork can take the forms of a drawing, a painting, a collage, a computer graphics or mixed media etc, which demonstrates characteristics of the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery with people, objects, abstract symbols or spirit etc.
- The entry should have an artist¡¦s statement of not more than 50 words on the concept of the postcard design.
- An electronic version of the artwork label cum declaration (Appendix 10d) and the finished artwork photo should be saved in a CD ROM for submission.
2. Painting Contest for secondary students
Theme : The Best Emerging Talents in Hong Kong
Size of artwork: A3 format, 29.7cm X 42cm
Artwork Requirements :
- After visiting the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery, participants in the competition select one favourite domain of the Gallery to create their painting artwork with any media.
- The artwork should demonstrate characteristics of the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery with people, objects, abstract symbols or spirit etc, and can be in poster colour,
crayons, water colour on paper, board, canvas etc. No framing is required.
- The entry should have an artist¡¦s statement of not more than 50 words on the concept of the painting.
- An electronic version of the artwork label cum declaration (Appendix 10d) and the finished artwork photo should be saved in a CD ROM for submission.
3. Digital Photo Contest for primary, secondary and general public
Theme : Talents at the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery
Size of artwork: one 8¡¨ X 10¡¨ print without frame
Artwork Requirements :
- After visiting the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery, competition participants can use a camera to take photos in the YAG.
- The photo should demonstrate characteristics of the Young Achievers¡¦ Gallery with creative images, techniques, structures and colourful combination etc.
- The entry should have an artist¡¦s statement of not more than 50 words on the concept of taking and editing the photo.
- The digital photo (in jpg file) and an electronic version of the artwork label cum declaration (Appendix 10d) should be saved in a CD ROM for submission.
Promotion of Competitions:
The Posters for these competitions will be uploaded to the YAG website and printed copies would be provided for schools and assigned venues, teachers who visit the YAG.

Adjudication:
Entries are judged upon on the relevance to the theme and content; creativity, originality, clarity of idea and image; technique and aesthetic excellence, especially on demonstrating in-depth understanding of the YAG.

Terms and Conditions :
- Student participants can enter more than one competition (i.e. Postcard Design + Digital Photo Contest or Painting Contest + Digital Photo Contest).
- Each school may submit at the most twenty entries and fill in an entries record form before the submission of artworks. Each participant can submit one entry only with an artwork label cum declaration adhered.
- The artwork should not have any pornographic, violent, obscene or commercial
promotion contents.
- The artwork/photo must be original creation, without any infringement of copyright. Should a participant wish to use any work or design which is regulated under the intellectual property legislation or other legislation in Hong Kong, he/she should follow the relevant guidelines and seek approval from the copyright owner or parties concerned. Also, the participants should clearly state that approval has been sought and submit a copy of the approval document together with the entry. Participants who fail to abide by such rules will be liable for legal responsibilities and be disqualified.
- Entries will not be returned and will become property of the YAG/EDB. Winning entries may be reproduced in other forms for educational promotion purposes.
- All participants should agree to all terms and conditions of competitions.
- EDB will not assume responsibility for any damage, loss of all entries due to postal submission.
- No personal details will be published without the participants¡¦ prior approval sought in writing. Only the EDB will have access to any personal data provided by the participants.
- Winning designs and selected artworks will be displayed at the YAG website and a set of souvenirs will be made from the wining entries.
Submission of Entries:
When entering the competition, participants should submit the following:
- Hard copy of the School Entry Form, the artwork with the Artwork Label cum Declaration adhered on the back.
- An electronic version of the artwork photo, the Artwork Label cum Declaration
- The above mentioned items should be submitted by post or by hand to the Reception Counter of West Podium, Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre, Education Bureau, 19, Suffolk Road, Kowloon Tong
